Louisville, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The North Clay School Board moved forward on a revised agreement with the North Clay Park District, voting 6-1 to approve amendments regarding the high school baseball field. Under the new terms, the district will pay the Park District $100,000 as partial compensation for the field’s construction costs. Additionally, all maintenance, repairs, and utility expenses for the field now shift solely to the school district, and the previous agreement will be officially terminated if passed by a two-thirds Park District board vote. All athletic facilities covered under the agreement become the school district’s property.
Public input at the meeting included calls from local resident Athena VanDyke to reintroduce fundamental English and typing courses, enhance campus safety with improved lighting, and reconsider student discipline policies, including phone collection and drug testing procedures.
Principals from both elementary and high school levels reported strong student participation in academic competitions, field trips, and extra-curricular events. Highlights included Brain Games, Red Ribbon Week activities, and athletic successes such as the baseball team’s tournament win and individual achievements in golf, cross country, and FFA livestock judging.
The board also discussed goals for the district, such as aligning school schedules, reviewing student handbooks, and re-examining exam exemption policies. Personnel decisions were made in closed session, resulting in the hiring of a new cook, the posting for an ELL paraprofessional, and authorization for the administration to hire additional non-certified staff as needed.
The district is also preparing for upcoming tax levy calculations based on new county assessments.
