Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The Effingham County Tax & Finance Committee held their monthly meeting Thursday and moved a few items to the full County Board for approval.
The Committee agreed to use the remaining ARPA funding for a new flagpole along Jefferson Avenue. They will re-assess if any money is left after the installation of the flagpole.
The Committee then heard from a representative for Corvette Funfest, requesting more funding for the upcoming event. Committee members heard that this will be the last year with Mid-America handling the event, as it will be a bit different next year. The Committee approved $1500 for the event and it will be presented to the County Board for consideration. The Committee also selected West & Company to do their audits for the next 2 years, with the total amount being $299.900 for the 3 years.
There were several public comments for requests for funding from CSS, U of I Extension, and the 708 Board. U of I Extension said that upcoming federal cuts have endangered the Hunters Feeding Illinois Program, and fears that it could lead to an influx of people using food banks at the same time they may lose deer meat donations through the program. CSS also stressed that due to upcoming Medicaid cuts, local non-profit entities, such as Heartland Human Services, would bear the brunt of the cost for those without Medicaid insurance utilizing their services. Both addressed the Committee with hopes of some extra funding to help them make ends meet.
The 708 Board also expressed concern over their finances, stating they are in the red by about $100k this year.
Treasurer Deb Ruholl also stated that the County is currently in the black, with tax revenue being about as expected up to this point.
