Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The Effingham County Legislative Committee met on Monday and discussed options for dealing with problem properties, or unkept grass and buildings in the County.
Many Board members said they believed this is a sensitive topic, as they want to address the problem properties, but don’t want to infringe on homeowners’ rights. They said a possible ordinance could help, but it may open up a big can of worms to try to execute. The Committee said they will look at options and will research what other counties have done. The item will likely be brought back next month.
The Committee also approved 2026 County Holidays and approved appointments for:
- Ambulance Oversight Committee – Ron Will (9/1/2025-8/31/2027)
- Lucas Township Drainage District – Larry Probst (9/2/2025-9/5/2028)
- South Island Drainage District – Kevin Miller (9/2/2025-9/5/2028)
- Island Grove Drainage District – Open Appointment (9/2/2025-9/5/2028)
- St. Francis Township Drainage District – Open Appointment (9/2/2025-9/5/2028)
