Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The heat wave continues, and it brings some chances for rain.
Much of the upcoming 7 days looks to be dangerously hot and humid in central IL, with significant relief not coming until the middle of next week. Only a small dip in temperatures is anticipated for Friday into Saturday. Heat index values will peak above 100 to as high as 115 most days through Tuesday. Effects of heat are cumulative with time, with prolonged exposure and less nighttime recovery leading to increased heat stress.
Scattered strong to severe thunderstorms will move into central IL from the west late this afternoon. There is a marginal risk of severe storms along and north of I-72 from around 5 pm to midnight. The primary storm hazards are wind gusts of 60 mph or more and localized flooding, especially in urban and poor drainage areas.
Chances for occasional thunderstorms are in the forecast through Sunday.
