
Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- Hot & humid conditions continue across central IL for several more days. Heat indices peaking in the 100 to 105 range will be common through Thursday. Protect yourself from the heat and sun by staying hydrated, applying sunscreen, wearing light-colored clothing, and taking frequent breaks.
Scattered (30-50%) thunderstorms are possible each afternoon and evening starting today, but not all locations will see rain.

HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM CDT THURSDAY... * WHAT...Heat index values 100 to 105. * WHERE...All of central and southeast Illinois. * WHEN...Until 7 PM CDT Thursday. * IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Low temperatures will only fall into the mid 70s, resulting in limited relief from the heat in buildings without effective cooling systems. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.
