Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- Delaine Donaldson of the Effingham County Cultural Center & Museum stopped by the studio to explain how a WWI veteran who took part in many aspects of the war but failed to return home left a lasting impact on those who knew him locally. His family, as well as those who knew him when he moved to Michigan, did what they could to keep his memory alive, and the story continues to this day.
You can listen to the interview below.
Thanks to Delaine Donaldson for detailing the journey of Mr. Durre and how he was remembered directly after the war and into the modern day. This story shows how a community can come together to honor our fallen veterans.
You can find more information on the museum and learn more about the County’s history at effinghamcountymuseum.org.
