Fayette County, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office handled a 2 vehicle accident this past Friday.
The accident occurred on U.S. Route 40, 1/4 miles west of 1750 Street.
Reports say that a vehicle driven by 23 year old Cleo Winterstein of Brownstown was traveling westbound. The Winterstein vehicle crossed the middle-divided line and struck a vehicle being driven by 29 year old Michael L. Niepert in his lane of travel, the eastbound lane. Fayette County Sheriff’s Office reports say the Winterstein vehicle came to a final rest in the south ditch facing east with all air bags deployed and the driver still inside the vehicle. The Niepert vehicle was blocking both lanes of travel just east of the Winterstein vehicle.
Niepert had minor scratches on the face and an injury to the left leg and reports say that Winterstein advised no injuries and refused medical. Niepert was transported to St. Anthony Hospital in Effingham for further evaluation.
