Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The Effingham County Board decided to table the new windows and solar panels project until more details are worked out as far as pricing for what type of windows received.
A representative from Centrica gave more details on what type of windows would be brought in and at what price. The discussion centered around whether the windows would be fixed (not openable) or vented windows, which could be opened to allow fresh air to circulate in. Some of the County staff expressed their support for the vented windows, where others said fixed windows would help keep temperatures regulated throughout the building. The Board also wanted more information on the solar panel initiative, specifically regarding how the project would be paid for.
The Board ultimately approved a transfer of $177,868 from the Capital Improvement Funds to pay for the roof repairs when the contract is awarded.
The Board also went over the end-of-year finances, which came back in the black with no amendments. The fiscal year salary schedule was also finalized, and language was added in to the hiring aspect to allow more flexibility when hiring potential assistants.
Board members also passed the tax levy for the fiscal year. The County’s equalized assessment value increased, which allowed for the County tax rate to be lowered and sufficient revenue still coming in due to the increase in the EAV. The Board changed the maximum number of paper copies to 900k from 1.7m, as Chairman Douthit found out that the County was not using anywhere near that amount of copies on a yearly basis. The move saves the county around $3k per year.
