Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- Reductions in food subsidy programs are coming next month. Food banks are bracing for an influx of hungry people.
People who use Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program cards to get groceries will see reductions of $90 to $250 per person in March.
That was Man-Yee Lee, spokesperson for the Greater Chicago Food Depository, Chicago’s food bank. She said they have doubled spending because they expect a lot more people to turn to food pantries.
One in five Greater Chicago households is struggling to put food on the table.
