Tuscola Snap Altamont’s Win Streak With impressive Three Point Shooting, Go On To Win 64-38

All good things must come to an end and on Saturday night in the last game of day for the NTC-CIC Shootout,  Altamont’s 18 game winning streak comes to an end falling to Tuscola 64-38.

Altamont would again come slow out of the gates falling down 6-2 in the early stages. That caused Coach Niebrugge to make a line change all five starters out and five new guys in.  The new lineup played well against the starters for Tuscola. Jordan Quinn got off to a five point start and Tuscola was only up by one in the closing seconds.  Josiah Hortin hit an awkward angle three around Eric Kollmann at the buzzer to give the Warriors the 17-13 lead after one.

Tuscola was on fire from three all night, knocking down 12 of 16 three point attempts on the night. Kam Sweetnam, Jackson Barrett, Hortin, and Quinn all hit three pointers in the second quarter. Since the Warriors were hitting their shots that did not allow Altamont to get out and run fast breaks or get anything going in transition.  Instead Tuscola played great half court defense and held Altamont just six points in the quarter. The Indians would trail 31-19 at the half.

Altamont would try to get back into it coming out of the locker room fired up. The Indians got going on a 5-0 run to start the third.  A put back by Mason Robinson and Avery Jahraus three would get Altamont a little closer,  31-24 and Coach Justin Bozarth would call a time out. Just as quickly as the Indians got back into it the lead swelled back to ten. With Parker James knocking down a three, after being left wide open made it 35-25.  Robinson would have six in the quarter a bright spot for Altamont. After that Tuscola would go on a 9-3 run to extend the lead to the largest up to that point 44-28.   Sweetnam would hit another three and Quinn would pour in eight in the quarter to maintain a 16 point lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Tuscola would hold Altamont to just two field goals in the final quarter. A couple more threes from Quinn, who would finish with 23 points on the night.  And another three by Sweetnam, his fourth of the night, proved to be the dagger as that put Tuscola up 57-35. The Warriors would eventually go on to win 64-38.

Altamont suffers its first loss in 18 games and the first since all the way on December 17th. The Indians are now 23-4 overall on the season. Their focus shifts to Tuesday night big matchup. It is also senior night  going up against St. Anthony. This is a rematch of NTC Championship Game that Altamont won 51-32.

Tuscola improves to 22-6 on the season and they will face off against Neoga on Tuesday.
