Springfield, IL-(Effingham Radio)- There are a host of new laws that go into effect in 2023 that will affect education in Illinois.
Every public middle or high school student will be provided at least one day of excused absence per school year to take part in a civic event. To help alleviate the statewide substitute teaching shortage, Governor J.B. Pritzker signed into law a measure which allows college students enrolled in an education-related field with at least 90 credit hours to start substitute teaching before they get their degree.
Two other laws include gun safety storage to be a required topic for safety education instruction, and community service can be added to the penalties for speeding in a school zone.
