Cumberland Upsets Arthur 28-26

Cumberland’s defense made that stops that it needed to in order to defeat ALAH 28-26.

Cumberland would get on the board first with a 60 yard touchdown pass from Bryant Webber to Trevin Magee with 10:29 left in the first quarter. Cumberland would score again with 8:15 left in the first half on a 45 yard touchdown pass again from Webber to Magee. That was when Arthur’s offense finally got on the board as University of Illinois Commit Kaden Feagin ran it in from 21 yards out to make it 14-7 at the half.

Arthur would tie the game back up with a Feagin 7 yard touchdown run, on a drive set up by a Cumberland interception. Cumberland would take back the lead with :28 left in the third quarter with a 40 yard touchdown from Webber to Magee, their third touchdown of the night. Cumberland would increase their lead to 28-14 on a 65 yard interception return from Ross McBride. Arthur wouldn’t go down without a fight as Feagin would score with 4:37 left in the game but Cumberland would block the extra point attempt. Cumberland would then drive the ball into Arthur territory but Arthur would stop Cumberland to set up a fourth down for the Pirates. Cumberland would attempt a field goal but it missed wide left. That gave Arthur a chance to tie the ball game up. Arthur would attempt to get into Pirate territory but on third and long Feagin would scramble out of the pocket and run for 75 yards into the end zone to make it 28-26 with just :21 left in the game. Cumberland’s defense would need to stop Arthur on the 2 point conversion. Feagin would take it on the QB keeper but Cumberland would stop him just short. Arthur would then attempt an onside kick but Cumberland would recover to improve to 2-2 on the season and 2-0 in conference play.

With the win Cumberland keeps their playoff chances alive as they now head back out on the road to take on 2-2 Arcola next Friday night.
