Effingham County, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The Following Preliminary Information is Being Released by Illinois State Police District 12:
WHAT:
- Multi vehicle personal injury crash
WHERE:
- I-70 westbound at mile post 88 emergency turnaround, 6 miles east of Altamont exit, IL, Effingham County
WHEN:
- September 30, 2021 at 11:43 a.m.
VEHICLE:
- Unit 1: Red 2020 Dodge Ram 3500 towing a silver 2017 Hyundai Accent on an 18’ double axle car hauler trailer.
VEHICLE:
- Unit 2: 2019 Jeep Cherokee Latitude
DRIVER:
- Unit 1: Gregory A. Faughn, 56.
- Unit 2: Valerie A. Williams, 50, transported via Air Evac to Carle with non-life-threatening injuries.
PRELIMINARY:
- Preliminary investigative details indicate the following occurred: Unit one was westbound on 1-70 at mile post 88. Unit 1 attempted to make an abrupt left U-turn at the emergency turn around. As Unit 1’s power unit was partially into the emergency turn around, Unit 2 struck the rear driver side of Unit 1’s trailer. Unit 2 came to a stop in the roadway, a short distance after striking Unit 1. Unit 2 engulfed in flames as Unit 2 driver was able to exit the vehicle. Unit 1’s tow, the Hyundai Accent, overturned onto the roadway. Unit 1 came to a stop in the emergency turn around, facing southeast.
CHARGES:
- Faughn was cited for Improper Lane Usage – violated median.
All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
