Altamont, IL -(Effingham Radio)- Newly hired Superintendent Dr. David Martin is withdrawing his acceptance of the position after facing backlash from the community.
Dr. Martin, 43, recently took the superintendent position for Altamont schools, but after the community found out about his pro wrestling career from late 1990’s to early 200’s and an appearance on “the Jerry Springer Show,” the resulting backlash was too much for Dr. Martin to take. He said he had used the money from wrestling and the show appearance to help pay for his books for college at the time. He is also an openly gay man, which garnered some reaction from the local community as well.
“I will admit, the 43 year old David would have passed but the 22 year old me saw it as cool and exciting at the time,” Dr. Martin said in a statement he released declaring his decision to resign. Dr. Martin was originally Superintendent of Tennessee School for the Blind before taking the position.
The departure will be addressed at the next school board meeting and a replacement will be chosen.
