Village Of Dieterich Fourth Of July Celebration Announces Changes

Dieterich, IL -(Mattoon Radio)- The Dieterich 4th of July Committee, after much deliberation, has come to the conclusion that the 2020 4th of July Celebration cannot be celebrated in our traditional way, with a large gathering and activities in Liberty Memorial Park. Please keep in mind, that each event and stand at the Dieterich 4th of July is 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐫𝐮𝐧. Each organization involved considered the health risks to their elderly and immune compromised members; liability, insurance; health department/food regulations; and financial loss/risk to their organization when coming to this conclusion. Illinois continues to strictly adhere to the Restore Illinois Plan, and festivals and large events are not permitted until a region or the state is in Phase 5. This phase will not be reached in time for 4th of July.

Regarding Fireworks: Each year the fireworks are funded by the proceeds raised by volunteer organizations who operate the pork burgers stand, shake-up stand, beer garden, bounce house, raffle, etc. Due to loss of fundraising at Liberty Park this year, if we shoot our fireworks this year, there would be no funding for fireworks for 2021. Therefore, it has been decided to cancel fireworks for this year, unless another funding options presents itself. There are other options being considered for 4th of July at nightfall, so stay tuned.
