On July 8, 2026, at approximately 2:38 p.m. an off-duty deputy and K-9 Chief were involved in a motor vehicle crash. The two were returning home from training and were traveling southbound on CR-1 (Big Four Road) following a box truck. As the deputy approached 2100 N, a semi-tractor trailer traveling northbound came across the center of the road striking the box truck. The deputy took evasive action and swerved off the west side of the road, down an embankment and came to rest in the ditch to avoid being struck by the semi-tractor trailer.
The deputy and K-9 Chief were uninjured. The deputy immediately began to render aid and requested EMS. The crash is being investigated by the Illinois State Police.
