Norman E. Baker of Newton, Illinois formerly of Sigel and Hidalgo, Illinois passed away Sunday March 22, 2026, in the Lakeland Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in Effingham, Illinois.
He was born April 18, 1927 in Sigel, Illinois the son of Earl C. And Hester H. (Wolf) Baker. Norman married Leona G. Yocum July 19, 1950 in Effingham, Illinois Mrs. Baker passed away June 16, 2019. Mr. Baker proudly served in the U.S Army and was a WW II veteran. After his military service he worked with the E.C. Baker Water Well Service until 1956. Norman then worked for International Harvester for 27 years, he then worked for 5 years with Davis Highway Garage until he retired.
Norman is survived by his Sons, Alan Baker Sigel, Illinois, Anthony Baker of Sigel, Illinois, Jerry Baker of Mattoon, Illinois, Carl Baker of Wheeler, Illinois, Jack Baker of Effingham, Illinois, Jim Baker Effingham, Illinois, Gale (Kelly) Baker of Effingham, Illinois; daughters, Debbie (Terry) White of Toledo, Illinois and Barbara Apke of Neoga, Illinois; brothers, Arthur “Tuffy” Baker of Sigel, Illinois, Tom Baker of Effingham, Illinois and Curtis Baker of Effingham, Illinois; sister, Bonnie Baker of Sigel, Illinois; several grandchildren, several great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Clifford Baker and Roger Baker; six grandchildren; Jacklin Apke, Brittany Baker, Cassara Holland, Charles Kaufman, Tanya Gerhardt and Tequila Coy; great grandson, Reid Baker: brothers, Earl Baker Jr., Paul Baker, Floyd Baker, Vernon Baker, Donald Baker, George Baker and Max Baker; sisters, Sarah Carpenter and Loretta Tegler.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations are suggested to the family in care of Debra White.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday March 30, 2026 in the Swengel – O’Dell Funeral Home in Neoga, Illinois. Visitation will be held on Monday March 30, 2026 from 10:00AM until service time also in the funeral home. Burial will follow in the St Michael Cemetery Sigel, Illinois.
