Clara Rose (Hinterscher) Wilson, age 80, of Toledo, Illinois, passed away at 4:41 AM, Friday, February 20, 2026, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, Illinois.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Thursday, February 26, 2026, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Greenup, Illinois, with Father Jeff Grant and Father Augustine Koomson, celebrating mass. The burial will be in the Janesville Cemetery in Janesville, Illinois. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at the Meyer Funeral Home Bishop Chapel in Greenup, Illinois. There will also be a visitation on Thursday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the funeral home. The rosary will be prayed at 4:00 PM Wednesday. In loving memory of Clara, memorials may be made to Christ the King Catholic Church Tree Fund.
Clara was born on December 9, 1945, on Pigtail Alley in Wendelin, Illinois, the daughter of George Francis and Hermenia Elizabeth (Gumble) Hinterscher. She attended Holy Cross Grade School in Wendelin and graduated from Noble High School with the Class of 1964. She then attended Mattoon School of Nursing and graduated with the Class of 1966. On July 19, 1969, she was united in marriage to Robert Wilson, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Wendelin, Illinois.
Clara was Licensed Practical Nurse for many years. She started her career working at Saint Anthony’s Memorial Hospital and Richland Memorial Hospital. She took time away from being a nurse to take care of her children when they were little. She returned to nursing and retired from Cumberland Nursing Center in 2000, after 20 years of service. In 1998, Clara was honored by the Long-Term Care Nurses Association with an award as the Nurse of the Year for her dedication and care for her patients.
Clara was strong in her faith and a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, where she was also a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. Her willingness to help in her community was a testament of love for others. She was a Girl Scout leader and helped with various projects, including sewing the curtains for the Cumberland Drama program that are still used today.
Clara loved her family and spending time with them was a treasure. She was her grandchildren’s biggest fan.
Clara is survived by her husband of 56 years Robert Wilson of Toledo, Illinois, children Patty (Brad) Wilson of Greenup, Illinois, Michael (Lori) Wilson of Toledo, Illinois and Nancy (John) Hinton of Louisville, Illinois, grandchildren Brandon (Gerry Alverado) Wilson, Haley (Lafe) James, Hannah (Hunter) Scales, Victoria (Joe) Carter, Ashley Wilson, Jacob (Brianna) Wilson, Johnathon Hinton and Breanna Hinton, great grandchildren Emma James, Ella James, Briar James, Liam Scales, and one on the way, brother Bill Hinterscher of Noble, Illinois, sister Mary Ann Wessel of Jacksonville, Illinois and lifelong best friend Phyllis Hawes of Greenup, Illinois.
Clara was preceded in death by her parents, father and mother-in-law Victor and Mary Wilson and brother-in-law Ted Wessel.
