Effingham, IL-(Mattoon Radio)- After 50 years of serving children, families, and volunteers in Coles County, Mid-Illinois Big Brothers Big Sisters will conclude operations effective March 1, 2026.
This decision was made by our Board of Directors following careful consideration and deep reflection on the long-term sustainability of the organization. It is not a reflection of the importance of our mission, nor the dedication of our staff, volunteers, donors, or community partners. Rather, it reflects the realities facing our organization and our responsibility to close with integrity, transparency, and care.
For five decades, Mid-IL BBBS has been honored to walk alongside young people, providing mentorship, encouragement, and connection during some of the most formative years of their lives. Thousands of matches were created because this community believed in the power of one caring adult to help change a child’s future.
Between now and March 1, 2026, our focus will be on a thoughtful and responsible wind-down process. This includes the careful conclusion of programs, clear communication with families and volunteers, and stewardship of the trust placed in us by our supporters and partners. Our priority remains the well-being of the youth and families we serve.
We are profoundly grateful to the volunteers who gave their time and hearts, the families who trusted us, the donors and partners who invested in our work, and the staff who carried this mission forward with professionalism and compassion. The legacy of Mid-Illinois Big Brothers Big Sisters lives on in the lives impacted, the relationships formed, and the community strengthened through mentoring.
Thank you for being part of our story. It has been a privilege to serve alongside you for the past 50 years.
With gratitude,
Mid-Illinois Big Brothers Big Sisters
