Clay City, IL-(Effingham Radio)- From the Clay County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page:
On October 16, 2025, at approximately 9:17 p.m. the Clay County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to Clay City for a female who was unresponsive in a parked truck outside of a business. The caller advised that the truck was still running and the female had her foot on the accelerator.
At approximately 9:21 p.m. deputies arrived on scene and quickly assisted the female from the vehicle out of fear that it was possibly on fire due to the smoke coming from the vehicle. Upon shutting the vehicle off, there was no evidence of a fire. While speaking with the female it was determined that there was a suspicion that she was under the influence and was taken into custody and transported to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
While deputies were continuing to investigate the incident, the owner of the vehicle informed deputies that the vehicle had been taken without permission from Olney. That information was later confirmed by the Olney Police Department.
As a result of this incident Hannah J. Lindsey, 23, of Olney, was arrested for Driving While Under the Influence of Alcohol and Possession of a Stolen Vehicle. Lindsey appeared in court on October 17 and was granted Pretrial Release under the “SAFE-T Act”.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Olney Police Department in this matter.
The charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
