Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- Effingham County Board’s Legislative Committee met Tuesday to address two key issues.
The group debated an advisory referendum about a federal scholarship tax credit, which could appear on the March 2026 ballot as part of the Big, Beautiful Bill that was passed earlier this year. Chairman Josh Douthit clarified this proposal would solely affect federal funding. Committee Chairman David Campbell noted that local legislators requested the referendum’s inclusion.
Additionally, the Board reviewed ongoing support for the State’s Attorney’s Appellate Prosecutor Service, with a potential annual cost of $18,000. If approved, the service would assist in handling appellate cases, ensuring continued legal support for the county.
The Board is also still looking for someone to fill the open position in the Island Grove Drainage District.
