Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- Effingham is experiencing a residential boom as city officials approved several key housing projects this week.
The Council green-lit the final plat for River Ridge Subdivision, which will bring 23 new homes to the city’s western edge along US Route 40. Meanwhile, a $373,500 state grant enables the city to buy 2.6 acres from Hospital Sisters Health System; this land off Heritage Avenue will be transformed into 14 residential lots, soon to be known as Oak Point Subdivision, near the waterway behind Kohl’s.
Attention also turned to the northeast, where the Hidden Hills Subdivision received Council approval to accept completed improvements, reduce, and extend its development bond. This area now includes 33 approved lots, with an additional 20-lot expansion underway. Overall, these projects will deliver over 100 new housing sites, supporting Effingham’s aim to manage growth as part of the ongoing 2050 Comprehensive Plan, which remains targeted for completion by the end of next year.
Only three of five Council members were at the meeting, with Commissioners Hank Stephens and Jake Niebrugge absent.
