Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The night of September 29, 2025 was a somber one in Teutopolis.
A flag was raised to honor those lost on that fateful night two years ago. Local firefighters and first responders handled the flag with care as it was put into position. Firetrucks and police cars turned their lights on in solidarity.

Hundreds of people gathered at St. Francis Church, paying their respects to those who lost their lives as a result of the anhydrous ammonia accident just outside of town in 2023.

The church bell tolled at 8:41pm, the same time the crash was reported. After that, bagpipes were played and a short word of thanks to the first responders and firefighters, local police, and others for making this memorial happen on just a week’s notice.
With such a big response and high attendance, this memorial is likely to happen again next year.
