Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- Last year the Ann Crooker St. Clair Constitution Week committee learned about a third grade student who loved history. At the time his mom worked at a business where the committee set up a yearly Constitution Week display. She shared with one of the committee members that her son loved history and enjoyed the display.
He created a painting that was displayed during the month of September, 2024. He entered the painting in the DAR Constitution Week poster contest that year and though he didn’t win, the IL State Chairman was very impressed that someone so young was interested in history, wanted to participate in our displays, entered the contest and that the chapter fostered his love of history. She sent his story and picture to Continental Congress held in Washington, D.C., where it scrolled across a screen during the Constitution Week reports. He was more than willing to meet with some of the committee members this summer and make plans to help this year with our displays.
He recently spent a morning with the committee setting up various displays around Altamont as they prepared for Constitution Week, 2025. He went with the committee when they met with the Mayor to receive the Constitution Week Proclamation. He is eager to learn and help.
At our September meeting, with guests that included the Illinois State Regent, a Honorary State Regent, and the District VI Director, the chapter gave Wyatt Ledbetter a certificate making him an Honorary Constitution Week Committee member.
Wyatt is the son of Lucas and Megan Ledbetter. He is a fourth grader at Altamont Grade School and knows the most interesting facts about history and our country. Our chapter is glad to have him working with us and already looking forward to Constitution Week 2026.
