Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- MSE Racing, in partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Carlyle Lake Project and the City of Carlyle, will host the Carlyle Lake Triathlon on Sunday, September 21, 2025. The race will begin at 7:00 a.m. and will offer both Sprint and Olympic distance options.
Athletes will start with a swim on the south side of Dam West Beach. From there, they will transition to the bike course, which begins at the Main Dam and travels north along designated roads in Clinton and Bond Counties. The run portion will follow, guiding athletes through the West and East Spillways, General Dean Recreation Area, Saddle Dam II, and across the Main Dam to the finish line.
To ensure safety of both athletes and the public, the following areas will be temporarily closed: a portion of Lake Road, from the West Spillway entrance to the Dam West Boat Ramp entrance, will be closed from 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 20, until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 21. Saddle Dam II, from McNair Campground to the Dam East Boat Ramp entrance, will be closed on Sunday, September 21, from 6:00 a.m. until the conclusion of the race.
Several public areas will remain open during the event, though they will be actively used by the racecourse. These include Dam West Day Use, Dam West Beach, the Main Dam, Clinton and Bond County roads, West and East Spillways, and General Dean Recreation Area. Visitors and residents are strongly encouraged to exercise extreme caution when driving or recreating in these areas during the event. Please watch for athletes on the course, reduce speed near active race zones, and follow all posted signage and volunteer instructions.
