
Shelby County, IL-(Effingham Radio)- From the Neoga Fire Protection District:
September 6, 2025, at approximately 3:35 p.m., Neoga Fire Protection District and Neoga Ambulance were paged to I-57 southbound near milepost 172 in Shelby County for a report of a female pedestrian possibly struck by a vehicle with unknown injuries.
Upon arrival, personnel provided assistance alongside the Illinois State Police and other responding agencies. The incident was later confirmed to have resulted in a fatality.
All further information regarding the crash investigation and victim identification will be released by the Illinois State Police.

BRIEF SYNOPSIS:
- ISP Troop 9 units responded to a two-vehicle fatal crash at the above location and time. Unit 1 (Two-Axle Box Truck) was traveling south on I-57. Unit 2 (Truck-Tractor Semi-Trailer combination vehicle) was disabled and parked on the right shoulder. Unit 2 driver (31-year-old male from Guanajuato, Mexico) was outside the vehicle attempting to add fuel. Unit 1 driver (Milan Vasiljevic, 38-year-old male from Milwaukee, WI) left the roadway and struck the driver side of Unit 2 and Unit 2 driver. Unit 2 driver was pronounced deceased on scene. Unit 1 driver reported no injuries on scene. The southbound lanes of I-57 were closed during the investigation, with traffic being rerouted at exit 177. The roadway reopened at approximately 9:53 p.m.
Unit 1 driver was cited for Improper Lane Usage and Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident.
The crash investigation is active and no further information is available.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
