Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The FDA is issuing an urgent recall of a prescription-only muscle relaxer. Unichem Pharmaceuticals issued a voluntary recall after bottles labeled as Cyclobenzaprine [[ SYE-kloe-BEN-za-preen ]] were found to contain Meloxicam [[ mel-OX-i-kam ]], a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, instead.
Health officials say consuming Meloxicam instead of Cyclobenzaprine can lead to potentially life-threatening side effects including cardiovascular issues, kidney damage, severe allergic reactions, and more. Unichem Pharmaceuticals has not received any reports of adverse events related to this recall, but individuals who have taken the wrong medication are urged to contact their healthcare provider immediately.
