Carlyle Lake, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Carlyle Lake Project is excited to support the Friends of Carlyle Lake, a newly formed volunteer group dedicated to enhancing recreational and educational opportunities at and around Carlyle Lake.
Friends of Carlyle Lake will host the Great Bottlecap Bike Race on Saturday, September 13, 2025, starting at 9:00 a.m. This unique outdoor event is designed to promote fun, adventure, and community engagement. The race will take place at various locations around Carlyle Lake and the City of Carlyle, beginning at the Carlyle Lake Visitor Center.
Participants will form teams of two and cycle to different recreational spots and local businesses, collecting bottlecaps along the way. Each bottlecap represents a simple, interactive challenge. Teams that collect all bottlecaps within the allotted time will be entered to win exciting prizes! “Our goal with the Great Bottlecap Bike Race is to encourage outdoor recreation and strengthen community connections,” said Kim Hammel, President of Friends of Carlyle Lake. “We invite everyone to join us for a fun morning of bicycling—electric bikes included! Feel free to ask us about who the Friends of Carlyle Lake are and what our mission is.” Online registration is required by Monday, September 1, 2025. Interested participants can sign up at: runsignup.com/Race/Registration?raceld=185625
