Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- Purdue Pharma is entering a seven-point-four-billion-dollar settlement with 55 U.S. states and territories.
The states and territories accused the company behind OxyContin of fueling the nationwide opioid crisis by aggressively marketing its products. The settlement will also end the Sackler family’s ownership of Purdue Pharma. Money from the settlement will go state and local governments, individuals and Native American tribes.
Since 1999 there have been more than 850-thousand opioid-related overdose deaths in the U.S., according to the CDC.
