Kinmundy, IL-(Effingham Radio)- From the City of Kinmundy IL Facebook page:
You may or may not be aware of the vandalism in Kinmundy the past several months. It seems to keep escalating and it is being done by children.
Webster Ball Park and playground equipment at a local church was defaced with vulgar graffiti, over $1,000 of damage was done to our Christmas decorations in the park, glass blocks were broken at the Madison Street Preservation building, a brick was thrown through the big glass window of Back in the Day Resale, electric was shut off at a local business, trash thrown all over the park and our downtown area, doorbells being rung at night and early mornings, sheds and other private property have been trespassed and all other kinds of mischievous and disrespectful things.
Unfortunately, the City Council had to make a difficult decision tonight because our local businesses and residents deserve for these senseless activities to stop.
Effective immediately, there will be a curfew for all children under the age of 16 within Kinmundy’s City limits. Children will not be allowed to roam the City without a parent, guardian or responsible person 18 years old or older after 8:00 pm.
Any child that violates this curfew will be issued a citation and will be required to do community service work on the following Saturday for 4 hours. Their parents will be required to personally supervise them during this time. The Marion County States Attorney has stated that this is completely legal and enforceable.
It is unfortunate and very sad that we have been forced to require this curfew because of a few groups of children that cannot refrain from causing problems. Especially when over 80% of the children in our town are not doing anything wrong and are responsible. We feel, for the most part, that this curfew will not affect these children as they are not out running the streets at all times of the night unsupervised.
Thank you for your understanding and compliance.
