Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The Effingham County Board on Monday approved a resolution publicly opposing the Homeschooling Bill, aka HB 2827, after a few changes to the resolution. Those changes included changing ‘infringes on’ to ‘violates,’ and took out a paragraph about DCFS and truancy officers that was found to be false.
Concerns were also shared by Julie Morrell and Natalie Hall about enforcement of truancy offenders who they deemed ‘no schoolers.’ Julie explained that they don’t really have a way to force a parent to prove they are properly home schooling their child, and that could lead to some kids getting no education at all. She went on to say that Illinois really has no laws pertaining to home school education, and she fears some kids would be left behind if it continues unchecked. Regardless, the resolution passed.
