Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The Effingham County Legislative Committee met on Monday and discussed wild and solar farms for the county, and voted on a resolution opposing the state bill on homeschooling.
The Committee began discussions about solar and wind farms by discussing how Coles County has handled the issue. The Committee expressed interest in seeing how it plays out in Coles County, but acknowledged that having some form of regulation on the books will help form the framework for those seeking to build wind or solar farms in the County. While the Committee will look into the matter to try to get more information, the Committee sent the topic to the full board for consideration, but may table it if mot enough information is gathered first.
The Committee then heard from Coral Weber, a homeschooling mom from Cumberland County, about her opposition to the Homeschooling Bill, HB 2827. She said the bill is about control, not the kids of the state. She asked the Committee to oppose the bill. The Committee did vote on a resolution to oppose the bill, passing it with only Norbert Soldtwedel voting ‘no’ on the resolution. He stated his main concern is how to make sure all kids have a chance at an education without oversight.
The Committee also approved the following appointments:
- Agricultural Area Board – Open Republican Appointment (6/1/2025 – 5/31/2028)
- Agricultural Area Board – Cletus Bloemer (6/1/2025 – 5/31/2028)
