
Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The Public Safety Committee met Monday for their quarterly meeting and went over multiple things with various county entities.
Sheriff Paul Kuhns said that since January, 2024, the daily inmate population has doubled, although it is still lower than pre-Covid numbers. He also reported that warrants served are up 55% from 2024 quarter 1. He said he attributes it to multiple things, including the new parameters for no cash bail through the SAFE-T Act.
Kim Rhodes, Effingham County Coroner, reported that she is looking to move in to the new morgue location soon. It has already been approved by the County Board, and will be located in the old Pet Feed building. Tina Daniels with 911 also reported that 3 projects are in the works:

Animal Control announced an upcoming collaboration with EARS, and Amber Wille with Emergency Preparedness stated that measles cases continue to be on the rise nationally, with it affecting 25+ states, now including Illinois. She said they also plan to start surveillance for West Nile and ticks.
Kevin Bullard with K9 Search & Rescue also announced an upcoming K9 seminar, which will feature K9’s from all over the nation coming up in September. It is slated to be from September 17-20.
