Virginia “Kay” Traub of St. Elmo, Illinois passed away on March 29th, 2025 at Willowbrook Residences of Vandalia. Services will be held on Saturday April 5th, 2025 at 1pm at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altamont, Illinois with visitation from 12-1 pm. Burial will follow at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery at a later date.
Kay was born June 4th, 1938 to Ira and Adeline L. Reeter Engle in Sefton Township, Fayette County. She had 2 children, Shelley and Stephen with her first husband Joseph F Kruger. She married Gary L Traub on December 15, 1984. Kay spent several years living in Altamont and St. Elmo, Illinois before retiring to Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. She returned to Illinois after the death of her husband. Kay worked many years at the First National Bank in Altamont and Mihlbachler Insurance Agency in Effingham. She loved her daily walks, playing golf, and volunteering at the Cumberland County, Tennessee Playhouse. She also enjoyed playing cards and the piano.
She is survived by one sister, Marilyn (Wayne) Fleischauer, daughter Shelley I. Yakstis, grandchildren Lauren R. (Morgan) Gray, Alexander B. (fiancée Chelsea Miller) Gilbert, Welsey J. Kruger, and Gracen J Kruger. Great-grandaughter Lucy M. Gray, stepson Todd L. Traub, stepdaughter Jana S. (Jay) Deadmond, step grandchildren Nathan L. Traub, Chloe J. Taub, Hannah Marie (Andrew) McGilvra, Trenton J. 9Frances) Deadmond, Kevin C. (Kelsey) Deadmond, Ethan G Deadmond (Hope Benefield) and Logan W. (Camryn) Deadmond. Step great grandchildren Liam P. Traub, Hazel C. Deadmond, Neva C. Deadmond, Edward G. Deadmond, Julian J. Deadmond, Kate N Deadmond.
She was proceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Gary L Traub, son Stephen J. Kruger, daughter-in-law Jeannine M Kruger, siblings Berle Engle, Kenneth Engle, Ben Engle, Ira “Jack” Engle, Mary Stites, Madelyn Feezel, Joan Skaar, Adeline “Doll” Dauphin.
