Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- Severe weather is likely for all of our local area Friday, and it brings chances for large hail, strong winds, and even a chance for tornadoes.
Much of central and southeast Illinois is now in a level 4 (of 5) risk of severe weather Friday evening. Damaging winds (potentially over 75 mph) are the main threat; however, very large hail (potentially larger than golf balls), and tornadoes are also possible. The time frame remains focused between 7 pm and 2 am. With the storms expected to move faster than 60 mph, you will not have a lot of reaction time available, so make sure you are familiar with your severe weather safety rules ahead of time.
A Wind Advisory has been issued for all of the area Friday afternoon and evening, with wind gusts even outside of the storms expected to range from 45-50 mph. There is potential for even higher gusts in the evening ahead of the storms. Another round of high winds is likely Saturday, especially late morning into mid afternoon.
