Myrtle Virginia “Myrt” McReynolds, age 88, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 11:22 AM – Thursday, March 6, 2025, at Linda E. White Hospice House in Evansville, Indiana.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM – Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at Saint Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton, Illinois, with Father Pawel Luczak celebrating mass. The burial will in the New Saint Peter Cemetery northeast of Newton, Illinois. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM – Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at the church. In loving memory of Myrt, memorials may be made to the Saint Thomas School or to the Linda E White Hospice House. Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois.
Mrytle was born on June 30, 1936, in Steele, Missouri, the daughter of Charles Wesley and Oda Bea (Corner) Chism. She was one of thirteen children. The family moved to Sikeston, Missouri, when she was a young girl. Myrt graduated from Sikeston High School and went on to further her education at the Saint Joseph School of Nursing in Memphis, Tennessee.
Myrtle married Bill McReynolds on December 10, 1955, in Sikeston, Missouri, and they moved to Newton, Illinois, to the Bill’s grandmother Ann Menke homeplace. They were blessed with four children, Tim, Nina, Chris, and Andy. Bill preceded her in death on June 30, 1994. She later married James L. Green on July 22, 1995, and together they shared 13 years before he preceded her in death on June 15, 2008.
Myrt worked as the office manager at Yale Equipment International Harvester Dealership in Yale, Illinois, for several years and worked at Don Ward Insurance Agency.
Myrt was a member of Saint Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, past president of the St Thomas Altar Society, past president of American Legion auxiliary. She loved art, in all forms, quilting, sewing, playing bridge, and designing many clothes and special orders. Her love of travel took to many places. She especially enjoyed going to Italy to see the Vatican and the Pope. She also traveled to the Holy Land and enjoyed spending the time in Florida
Myrt is survived by her Children – Tim (Yanya) McReynolds of Oldsmar, Florida; Nina Boone of Millsboro, Delaware; Chris McReynolds of Newton, Illinois; and Andy (Jamie) McReynolds of Willow Hill, Illinois, Grandchildren – Melissa Fernandez, Kathy (James) Griffith, Hayley Darnald, Sarah (Paul) Lidy, Sydney (Travis) Gyuran, Will (Ashley) McReynolds, Wyatt McReynolds, Symon McReynolds, Ross McReynolds, and Tess McReynolds. Great Grandchildren – Trinity Fernandez, Hudsyn Rickfelder, Dathan Lidy, Kinsley Lidy, Triston Ferguson, Wilder McReynolds, Jett McReynolds, Journey McReynolds, Karter McReynolds, and one due in April. Myrt was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, son-in-law Delbert Boone, daughter-in-law Christina McReynolds, siblings Aaron Chism, William Charles Chism, Stoy Chism, Lawrence Chism, Ocie “O.C” Chism, Anniebelle Donnell, Lillian Petty, Girtha Clements, Jane Phillips, and Bonnie Joyce Chism and a special friend Ray Kautz.
