Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The National Weather Service is offering their annual severe weather spotter training on March 18, 2025, at 6:30 pm. The class will be held at Effingham County Emergency Operations Center, 311 Miracle Ave, Effingham IL.
Severe storm spotters are a VITAL part of the severe weather warning process! Spotters provide critical, and potentially, lifesaving information to their communities and surrounding locations – and to National Weather Service (NWS) forecasters who are using these reports to help issue warnings and keep the public updated during severe weather events.
The in-person training covers severe weather hazards including thunderstorms and tornadoes, safety concerns, planning for and anticipating severe thunderstorms, general storm structure and movement, and identification of important storm features.
New this year are more interactive portions of the sessions.
- All sessions last about 2 hours.
- They are free and open to the public.
- Classes are appropriate for all ages. Ages 10 and up will likely get the most out of the training.
Pre-registration is NOT required. Just sign in on the attendance sheets when you arrive.
