Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The extreme cold continues into tonight, but a warmup is on the way.
Wind chills of lower than 25 below zero are likely this morning north of a Quincy to Bloomington line, and this area has been upgraded to an Extreme Cold Warning. South of there will be no picnic either, with wind chills of 15-25 below as far south as I-70. Looking ahead to tonight, wind chills drop down to 10-15 below again, coldest east of a Galesburg to Mattoon line, though they ease up a bit after midnight as temperatures begin to creep upward.
The worst of the cold snap will be today, as temperatures only reach the single digits for highs. While many areas dip below zero again this evening, a slow warming trend will begin overnight, and most areas will be in the 20s by Wednesday afternoon. A fast moving system will bring up to a half inch of snow Wednesday night north of I-72.
There is a Cold Weather Advisory in effect until 3pm today, and then from sundown until 6am Wednesday.
