On Wednesday 10/2/2024 at 16:59 hours, Teutopolis with auto-aid from Montrose was dispatched to Interstate 70 eastbound at mile marker 101.5 for a multi vehicle accident. This is within the ongoing construction zone. Due to the location of the incident, crews had to use the 1800th Street overpass and carry equipment to the scene.
Upon arrival, two tractor trailer semis and one pick up with a vehicle hauler trailer was involved. The driver of the pick up was pinned within the wreckage. Extrication took 56 minutes from time of arrival. Air Evac medical helicopter transported the driver to a trauma center. Two other individuals were transported by Rural Med EMS to a local hospital. The center barrier wall was partially moved into the westbound traveling lane and was reset by crews from IDOT and the contractor.
Firefighters cleared the scene at 18:43 hours. ISP Troop 9 is investigating the cause of the accident.
