Coles County, IL-(Effingham Radio)- Information on the victim of the deadly Coles County Crash Monday morning has been released.
The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office made the announcement on their Facebook page:
“It is with deepest sadness that the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office is announcing the death of Correctional Officer Jennie Ashley. Officer Ashley passed away unexpectedly from a traffic accident on June 3, 2024. Officer Ashley was off duty at the time.
Correctional Officer Ashley had worked for the Sheriff’s Office since September of 2023. She brought years of experience in corrections from previous employment. While only a Correctional Officer with the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office for a short amount of time, Officer Ashley made immediate connections with coworkers and even helped mentor some who were starting in the profession. Officer Ashley built rapport with the inmates in which she interacted and frequently showed empathy in those interactions. She will be greatly missed.
Our prayers go out to Officer Ashley’s family and friends as we suffer through this loss. As a show of respect, uniformed divisions of the Sheriff’s Office will be wearing mourning bands on their badges until the funeral has concluded.”
Jennie was a board member for the Village of Dieterich until 2019, when she moved out of the Village. The Dieterich Village Board said during their June 3rd meeting that they send their condolences to her family during this difficult time.
