Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- From the Teutopolis Fire Protection District Facebook Page:
On Monday 11/13/2023 at 11:44 hours, Firefighters were dispatched to a brush fire behind 11936 N 1775th Road. Firefighters were able to quickly contain the fire before it advanced further in to a wooded area.
Firefighters cleared the scene at 12:50 hours.
The Marshall Fire Protection District also expressed their concern over the increase in brush fires lately in a Facebook post:
Today (11/15) alone, Marshall Fire, Martinsville Fire, Casey Fire and West Union Fire have been called out on separate brush fires throughout the day.
With this, we ask very simply that due to the extremely dry conditions and windy days, that any amount of burning of brush or other materials be done only if you plan on keeping a constant and close watch on the fire itself. And keep in mind that conditions can change quickly causing the fire to spread within a very short moment.
We constantly hear “I didn’t think it would go anywhere” or “I only started a small fire”.
If you feel that you “HAVE” to burn a brush pile or other materials, please form a fire break around the area and have water on hand as a backup. Also, due to the current conditions, if your fire does start to get even a little out of hand – Call 911. Remember, the entire county is volunteer firefighters and depending on your location, it may take time to get to you.
NEVER leave a fire unattended, even for “just a few minutes”.
Your consideration during this dry period will be greatly appreciated by all of the departments.
