Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- Part of ongoing Fayette Avenue reconstruction
The Illinois Department of Transportation announces that Maple Street from the Fayette Avenue intersection to south of Edgar Street in Effingham will be closed beginning Oct. 24.
The closure is necessary for reconstructing the intersection of Maple Street and the eastbound lanes of Fayette Avenue. Walnut Street, Cherry Street and Oak Street will be open to provide access south of Edgar Street. One lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction on Fayette Avenue during this closure. Maple Street is schedule to reopen in mid-November.
Motorists will need to find an alternate route for Maple Street and can expect delays and allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
