Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- It’s going to be a scorcher out there the remainder of the week.
According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, daily highs are expected to reach into the mid 90s to around 100 degrees through Saturday, bringing with it heat index values of 105-110 degrees.
A cold front is expected to move into Illinois on Saturday bringing a hint of relief for a day or two.
A Heat Advisory has been issued for our entire listening area.
Listeners should take steps to stay safe during heat waves.
This includes:
- reducing, eliminating, or rescheduling strenuous outdoor activities until the coolest time of day
- wearing lightweight, loose-fitting, light-colored clothing
- minimizing direct exposure to the sun
- eating light, cool, and easy-to-digest foods
- drinking plenty of water, non-alcoholic and decaffeinated fluids
- use air conditioners or go to an air-conditioned location such as a library or mall
- take a cool bath or shower
- check on those at higher risk
Reminder, it is never safe to leave a child, disabled person, or a pet in the car during a heat wave.
