Clay County, IL-(Effingham Radio)- From the Clay County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page:
On February 24, 2023, at approximately 9:57 p.m. a Clay County Sheriff’s Deputy was traveling westbound on Highway 50 near Stanford Rd in his marked squad car when a vehicle passed him and multiple other vehicles at high rate of speed. The deputy then attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the silver Ford Sedan but the driver failed to stop until he turned north onto North Worthey St. When conducting the routine license plate check on vehicle, it showed the vehicle was stolen from Effingham. The deputy detained the driver and the passenger with assistance from additional deputies and the Flora Police Department. Once they confirmed the vehicle was stolen the two individuals were transported to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
As a result of the investigation Ronald M. Bruce, 19, of Effingham, was arrested for Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle, Driving While License Revoked, Improper Passing, No Valid Insurance, and Speeding. Bond was later set in amount of $25,000 (10% to apply) and was incarcerated in the Clay County Jail at the time of this release. The passenger was released without charges later that same night.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Flora Police Department and the Effingham Police Department in this investigation.
The charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
