Neoga Remains Undefeated Defeats Altamont 61-31

On a game that was moved a day earlier due to the impending winter weather, it was the Battle of the Indians on Wednesday night. As it was Neoga who jumped out to an early lead and went on to win the game 61-31.

It was a tough night all around for Altamont as they could never get anything going offensively, as shot after shot were not falling. Junior Grace Nelson tried to do everything she could to stop the game getting to far away from Altamont. As Neslon would drive and be met by three or four Neoga defenders on every play.  Grace would finish with six in the opening quarter. It was a even better start on the other side for Neoga. As Brynn Richards took advantage of some open looks and second chance opportunities to pour in six of her own. Allison Sampson would also make a three and score six as well. Neoga would go out to the 20-11 lead after one.

Neoga would continue to pour it on in the next quarter as they would go on a 11-1 run to start the quarter. The senior Sydney Richards also turned it up and scored nine in the quarter. To help Neoga go up 31-12 at one point. The air would be let out of the gym a little as with a few minutes left in the half. Altamont’s Grace Nelson would get tangled up with a Neoga defender fighting for a rebound and Nelson would come down and go down to the floor holding her left knee. Nelson was down for several minutes and eventually carried off the floor. Nelson would return to the bench at the start of the third on crutches and knee wrapped up never to return to the game. Neoga would outscore Altamont 18-6 to take the 38-17 lead at the half.

Altamont would gather themselves after seeing one of their teammates go down and come out and play some good ball to start the second half. Remington Miller and Kaylee Lurkins would make some baskets. Libby Reardon would make  a three pointer to try and make it a game again. Unfortunately for Altamont, after that initial scoring outburst it returned to more of the same shooting the basketball. For Neoga Haylee Campbell took over as she scored eight in the quarter to get the lead 50-28 after three.

Neoga would eventually put the game away holding Altamont to just three points and get the 30 point running clock. Neoga would go on to win 61-31.

Altamont falls to 10-3 on the season and 3-3 in the NTC. Altamont is back in action after the holidays in the Mattoon Holiday Tournament with two games on Tuesday. At 11:30 against Mattoon and 3:00 against Mahomet Seymour.

Neoga improves to 14-0 and 5-0 in the NTC. Neoga is back in action after the holidays in the Monticello Holiday Hoopla starting on Monday.
