Altamont Shoots Lights Out Win Over South Central 72-45, Jahraus Makes 7 Three Pointers

On Friday night Altamont traveled to Farina for a revenge game for how last season ended to take on South Central. The Indians came away with a blowout win 72-45 over South Central in the conference opener.

When a player goes down the mentality is next man up and the same thing could be said for coaching as well.  Indians Assistant Coach Trenton Kull filled in head coaching duties of the varsity game due to an illness for head coach John Niebrugge. And it was a smooth transition, as Altamont shot the ball lights out and couldn’t miss. Particularly senior Avery Jahraus who would knock down seven from beyond the arc on the night.

Altamont got off to a great start executing on a couple of turnovers and jumped out to a 11-4 lead. Aiden Dodson, the dynamic scorer for the Cougars, tried to keep his team in it by scoring six in the opening few minutes of play. Altamont would have the lead 19-14 lead by fellow senior Mason Robinson who poured in eight points.

Altamont would start to extend the lead out to double digits. After the Indians started to catch fire from beyond the arc.  Jahraus making a couple, Robinson and Elam both made one as well.  Jacob Smith would try to keep South Central in it by answering with a couple of corner threes of his own. Altamont  would extend their lead out to 37-26 at the half.

Altamont would come out of the locker room not cooling off from range. Indians opening up on a 6-0 to start the quarter. A couple more threes from Jahraus and Jared Hammer would get in on the three point shooting as well. Altamont would double up the Cougars 19-8 in the third to widen the margin to 22. The score being 56-34 after three quarters.

Altamont would not let up and continued its hot shooting outscoring the Cougars 35-17 in the second half. The lead got up to 30 at one point, initating the running clock for the last few minutes. Altamont would go on to win 72-45.

Altamont improves to 3-2 and 1-0 in the NTC. Next up hosting Carlyle on Tuesday.

South Central falls to 3-2 and 0-1 in the NTC. Next up is Edwards County on Monday at the Conrad Allen Tournament in Wayne City.
