On August 2, 2022 at approximately 4:30 p.m. the Clay County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of burglary to a motor vehicle at a business in Louisville. The victim advised that unknown person(s) had entered their vehicle and stole several items.
On August 8, 2022 Robert Schmitz, 40, of Louisville was arrested as a result of this ongoing investigation and a Clay County Warrant for Failure to Appear. Schmitz was later charged in Clay County Court for the offense of Identity Theft more than $300, and his bond was set in the amount of $40,000 (10% to apply) in both cases. Schmitz remains incarcerated in the Clay County Jail.
The charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
