ISP Pedestrian Fatal Traffic Crash

Marion County, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The Following Preliminary Information is Being Released by Illinois State Police District 12:

WHAT:                      

• Pedestrian Fatal Traffic Crash           

WHERE: 

• North Broadway south of Oakwood Street, Salem, Marion County

WHEN:

• March 5, 2022 at approximately 10:05 p.m.

PEDESTRIAN:         

• Hailey M. Budde, 23-year-old female from Salem, IL – Deceased

VEHICLE:

• Unit 2– 2017 Gray Dodge Caravan

DRIVER:                   

• Unit 2- Courtney C. Gunnels, 28-year-old female from Kinmundy, IL

PRELIMINARY:      

• A preliminary investigation indicates the following occurred: The pedestrian was walking northbound in the southbound lane of Illinois Route 37 south of Oakwood Street. Unit 2 was traveling southbound on Illinois Route 37 and encountered a pedestrian, walking northbound in the center of the southbound lane. Unit 2 attempted to swerve left (east) around the pedestrian but was unable to avoid a collision with the pedestrian. The pedestrian was transported to an area hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.
