On the final day of the 40th Sesser Valier Holiday Tournament Altamont took home 3rd place with a 45-38 win over C0bden.
Not only did Cobden have one of the best mascots in Illinois. But also had the services of the duo of Tyler Franklin, who had been averaging 24 points per game in the tournament and Elliot Lowndes, who just happened to be 6’11 with a long wingspan. Lowndes would have his fair share of rebounds and 4 blocks in the game but held in check by Mason Winn and Will Schultz, who was inserted in the starting lineup. Franklin and Lowndes for the most part were held in check until the fourth quarter. And Altamont would close the game out the game in the fourth quarter with some clutch free throws.
Altamont would start the game off making three from beyond the arc to get off to an early 13-10 lead after one.
Lowndes would score all six points for Cobden in the second quarter but it was Altamont who would increase their lead by five at the half 21-16.
Altamont would have another slow offensive quarter slowed down by the Appleknocker zone. It was Cobden who cut the lead to just two 26-24.
Then Franklin would wake up and start to get off hot from the field and score 10 in a back and fourth final quarter. Noah Klimpel would make the biggest shot of the game with three minutes left. Noah would make a three to give Altamont the lead back and the Indians would never trail again. As unlike in past games, Altamont closed it out with clutch free throws from Hammer, Robinson and Winn to win and take home third place in the tournament.
Altamont improves to 10-4 on the season and are back in action Tuesday to begin the new year traveling to Shelbyville.
