Effingham Runs Away From Tornadoes 27-7

Effingham used a denominating rushing attack to go on the road and get the win against Taylorville 27-7.

It was again somewhat slow start for both teams as Taylorville punted on their first possession while the Hearts had a good drive going moving to the edge of the red zone but fumbled it away. The Tornadoes could not capsulize on the turnover as they would punt it away again.  It was on the second drive of the game for the Hearts that they would break thru. They would ride on the back of junior John Westondorf down the field and would punch it in from 2 yards out on the first play of the second quarter.

Then it didn’t take Effingham long to score three plays in fact into the 3rd quarter,  Tanner Pontious threw it deep for Armando Estrada to go in for a 61 yard TD pass.   Effingham would get on the scoreboard again in the quarter. Another TD pass from Pontious this time to the fullback out of the back field Evan Waymouth for a 27 yard TD.

Effingham would score one last time in the final quarter with another rushing TD from Westendorf this time from 25 yards out to make it 27-0.  Taylorville would find the end zone soon after a long reverse run from Seth Hughes, Kam Heimsness would find Jaden Malhon on a 35 yard TD.  Effingham would fumble again on the next possession but ultimately nothing came of it after a turnover on downs for Taylorville.

Effingham improves to 2-3 on the season and go on the road again next game for a date with Mt. Zion.
